The mask itself has a soft felt material on the inside and an attractive black silk-like finish on the outside.

A flap on the bottom of the mask smartly folds itself over the nose when one bends the mask to place it on one's face - and this folding action is what fits the mask over the nose in such a way as to actually prevent light from seeping in.
